Kids on Computers has typically installed Edubuntu on the computers they give to projects. Edubuntu has a lot of very useful resources but may be too bulky for the systems we setup. Here is a list of other options for operating systems to install machines and their viability in our setups.
Kids on Computers promotes the use of Open Source Software. Typically we use Ubuntu or Edubuntu, but we are always looking for other distros that meet the needs of students and teachers.  In many cases, donated computers with limited resources (e.g. physical memory) will perform better with a light-weight distro.
